Belize Travel FAQ
Great question — you’d be surprised how many people don’t know! Belize sits just south of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, bordered by Guatemala to the west and the Caribbean Sea to the east. It’s about the size of Massachusetts, with a population of just 390,000. Small country, massive experiences. Direct flights from Miami, Houston, Dallas, and Atlanta get you there in under 4 hours.
Yes. Belize is one of the most welcoming countries in Central America, especially for American travelers. English is the official language, so there’s no language barrier. And when you travel with RAS Tours, you’re with Randy — a lifelong Belizean who knows every road, every village, and every shortcut. You’re never on your own.
Just a valid passport. No visa required for US citizens. You’re allowed to stay up to 30 days. You’ll also want to show proof of sufficient funds (about $50 US/day) and a return ticket. That’s it — easy.
The Belize Dollar (BZ$) is pegged at a fixed rate: 2 BZ$ = 1 US$. Simple math. US dollars are accepted almost everywhere — hotels, restaurants, shops. Visa and Mastercard work in most tourist areas, but carry some cash for rural spots and local markets. We’ll make sure you’re never caught off guard.
Our all-inclusive packages cover accommodations, guided tours, transportation, most meals, and all activities. No hidden fees, no surprises. Starting from $2,000/person for our popular 5-night/6-day experience. Every detail is handled so you can just enjoy the ride.
Small. That’s the whole point. We prefer around 20 people max, which means you get personal attention, flexible timing, and access to experiences that big bus tours simply can’t offer — like meeting Mayan descendants, making chocolate by hand, or playing soccer with a local village.
Think light and casual. Shorts, tank tops, swimwear, sandals, and a good pair of hiking shoes for the ruins and jungle trails. Loose-fitting long sleeves and pants are smart for site visits. Don’t forget: sunscreen, insect repellent, a reusable water bottle, your phone & charger, and a sense of adventure.
Warm. Year-round. Average temperature is about 79°F. Summer highs can hit the mid-90s, and winter rarely dips below 60°F. The sea breeze keeps things comfortable, especially on the keys. Pack light,
stay cool.
Hotels charge a 9% hotel tax. Restaurants include a 12% service charge (in lieu of tipping). Airport departure tax is $17.50 US. Tipping beyond the service charge isn’t expected, but it’s
always appreciated — especially for guides who go above and beyond.
Belize is a beautiful mix of Creole, Garifuna, Mestizo, Maya, Mennonite, Chinese, and East Indian cultures — all in a country smaller than New Hampshire. English is the official language,
but you’ll hear Spanish, Kriol, Garifuna, and Mayan throughout your trip. Our tours don’t just show you the sights — we introduce you to the people. You’ll meet Mayan descendants, learn about Garifuna drumming, and share meals with families who’ve lived on
this land for generations.
We strongly recommend it. Travel insurance covers unexpected cancellations, medical emergencies, and lost luggage. It’s a small investment for total peace of mind. We carry $1 million in liability
insurance for your protection — but personal travel insurance is on you.
Simple. The big companies send you to Belize. We ARE Belize. Randy was born and raised here. Our guides are Gold Standard Certified. We’ve been doing this for over 20 years. You won’t be tourist #47 on a bus — you’ll be family.
